Caption limits and image sizes by platform

Every platform truncates captions at a different point and crops images to a different ratio. This is what the preview uses.

Instagram post preview

Instagram captions can run up to 2,200 characters, but the feed shows roughly the first 125 before hiding the rest behind more. The preview uses the classic square 1:1 feed crop.

X (Twitter) post preview

X has a hard limit of 280 characters for standard accounts, so anything past it is rejected rather than truncated. The preview marks the overflow in red and shows images in the 16:9 timeline crop.

LinkedIn post preview

LinkedIn allows up to 3,000 characters and shows roughly the first 210 in the feed before see more. Landscape images near 1.91:1 keep the whole frame visible.

Facebook post preview

Facebook accepts extremely long posts, up to 63,206 characters, but collapses anything past roughly 477 characters behind See more. Landscape images display near 1.91:1.

TikTok caption preview

TikTok captions can be up to 2,200 characters, with only the first line or two visible over the video. The preview uses the vertical 9:16 format with the caption overlaid.

Is this post preview tool free?

Yes. It is free, there is no sign-up, and there are no usage limits.

Is my caption or image uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. The image is read locally and never leaves your device, and your caption is not stored or sent to any server.

How accurate are the previews?

They are close approximations of each platform's feed layout. Platforms update their apps often and truncation points vary by device, so treat the fold markers as estimates rather than pixel-perfect guarantees.

What are the caption character limits for each platform?

Instagram allows 2,200 characters, X allows 280 on a standard account, LinkedIn allows 3,000, Facebook allows 63,206, and TikTok allows 2,200. The character check tracks all five while you type.

Can I publish my post from this tool?
